This post would normally be in late November when we are skiing in PLPP, but the hut is open three months early since it is being used as a Visitor Information Centre. The PLPP Visitor Centre  which is just up the road was damaged during the June floods and is awaiting repairs.

The hut is well-suited to its temporary use as a Visitor Centre. The rain was pouring down yesterday, but the hut was warm and welcoming as we were greeted by the roaring fire and two friendly information reps. It would be an appropriate and natural location for the information centre in the winter.

As you may know, Pocaterra trail has been severely damaged between the group camp and Lynx junction. In its present condition it can not be used for skiing this winter. I’m hoping there will be some contingency plans put in place to mitigate this unfortunate circumstance. I’m sure we’ll have some news on this situation as we approach ski season.

With the rain pelting down, we didn’t do any hiking but it was a pleasant drive with some interesting wildlife viewing. It was a rare and special sight to see mama moose and her calf swimming across the canal along the Spray Lakes road.
