There might not be a large number of skiable kilometres, but what exists is fantastic. I enjoyed checking out the newly-opened trails today with Peter and Barbara.
Banff trail is now open for 2.5K on man-made snow and there are large mounds of snow beyond, as well as on the trail up to the warming hut. This snow should be pushed out and leveled and trackset imminently. The snowmobiles were returning the hoses and guns to the daylodge area as we were skiing out, so I can only surmise the snowmaking at the far end has been completed.
The warming hut is not open yet, but should be by Wednesday. I am guessing the Banff loop should be skiable by then, too.
Many new offshoots from good old Frozen Thunder now exist and the original 1.8K has probably doubled.
I used the same grip wax that was already on my skis from Saturday which was VR40(-4/12) and had excellent grip, and with the CH4 glide wax I was flying on that cold snow. My car indicated -18°C when I arrived around 2 pm, and had warmed up to -14 by the time I left.
Hi BoB,
It’s funny because it’s my first Time in your website and I am in your pictures. I’m french from France. Your website are cool ! See you in the skis!
Jordane
Funny- we were skiing at exactly the same time!
And I saw all the people you saw and photographed ! Guess we were both in ‘frost camo’!
Great to have some glide! I had start artic in and seemed fast to me. Good grip.
