Snow update

Sat Feb 4 @7:45 a.m:

I’ve received 3 cm of snow overnight in Canmore. The temperature is -18°C.

Elk Pass, Blueberry Hill, and Hydroline were trackset last night, but will have varying amounts of fresh snow on top of the grooming. The PLPP Live Grooming Report added these remarks:

“As of 7:00AM, between 6 cm at the north end and close to 20 cm at the south end/at higher elevations, have fallen over the trails in the last 24 hours, with light snow still falling. Expect varying amounts of fresh snow on top of all grooming, with drifting in places.”

Lots more snow is on the way for the remainder of the weekend. The Snow Forecast is optimistically predicting a further 43 cm for PLPP and slightly lesser amounts for Ribbon Creek(37 cm),Banff(32 cm) and Lake Louise(27 cm).

The Mud Lake (near Burstall Pass trailhead) weather station shows an increase of 13 cm in snow depth since yesterday.

I just noticed on the Webcams page the Lake Louise road cam is finally up and running again. Looks pretty snowy there.

  1. (-: kananaskis avalanche anticipates storm snow to peak Saturday eve and into Sunday with winds increasing at the tail end. Hopefully this will fix some of the manky trail breaking off track.
