Cookie racers at the Elkwood feeding station

Happy birthday to all Leap Year babies.

It will be extremely busy in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park today due to the Cookie Race. The trails are still open to the public, but it will be impossible to park at Pocaterra Hut until much later in the day.

The snowcats are busy grooming the trails in PLPP this morning for the race. There is at least one additional snowcat working.

Cookie racers at Boulton Creek

I’m 2500 kilometres away from the “empire,” but it appears from all the weather forecasts that it’s snowing lightly in PLPP this morning. The Mud Lake weather station indicates 9 cm of new snow last night. The Weather Network indicates a temperature of -6°C at Boulton Creek with a high of -4. Windy.com forecasts a high of -1 at noon.

Good luck to all the participants and a big thank you to all the volunteers. I’ll be waiting for your reports!

In Lake Louise yesterday, Moraine Lake road, Tramline and the Pipestone trails were groomed. The forecast is calling for snow and a high of -4. There’s a snowfall warning for Hwy #93 north of Lake Louise.

It sounds like warm weather is taking its toll at West Bragg Creek. “Recent warm weather has created some icy sections – ski with care! Still lovely skiing to be had. Currently skate skiing is very nice on Core Trails.” It’s -1 at the WBC trailhead at 7:30 a.m.

That was a fantastic piece of poetry by Old L E Phant. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth going to the trip reports from yesterday and reading it.

  1. So just read the new plan by provincial government to no longer trackset anything not in a national park or Nordic center. So I guess this is the end of this race I suppose?
