Here’s someone who skis even more than I. This is our first update from SkiHere’s Adopt-a-Skier:
“I am Molly-Jane Strum and I am a cross country ski racer. I am 12 years old and ski with Canmore Nordic ski club. My coaches are Kathy Davies, Roy Strum, and Phil Wood. I really love to ski and to race. I especially love skating sprints.
This month I have been focusing on spending lots of time on my skis. Over Christmas holidays I have been doing lots of big volume to help me do well at Westerns in February and at Alberta Youth Championships. Mostly I have been skiing at West Bragg Creek ski trails, but also at the Canmore Nordic Centre. In December I raced in the AB Cup races in Canmore. I had a great sprint race and worked hard in my classic distance race.
In January, I will be going to Edmonton to the Alberta Cup races and a Bow Corridor race in Calgary. I have three ski practices a week with my team, plus ski two or three other days where I ski at West Bragg Creek or Canmore. I also like to do English horseback riding and do that on Fridays.
This season, I plan to have lots of fun and go in lots of races. I feel really lucky to have lots of ski friends at my ski club. I especially like going on road trips to ski races with my friends.”
Good luck in your races, and we’ll be looking forward to your next update. Above all, have fun!
-Bob and Cheryl

For anyone interested: Fernie is beautiful right now. (BEAUTIFUL.) We woke up to 15cm of new snow, the cloud cover was high throughout the day… and the grooming both at the resort and in town was done first thing in the morning. It was a bit sticky because it was so warm, but the lack of crowds completely made up for it. =)
