I knew we’d get a lot of reaction to my recent post entitled “Dogs.” It’s no surprise that we tied the record for most views in a single day with 1153.
Thanks for all the comments. This is an issue which both sides are passionate about, and constructive dialogue is always healthy. I’ve been on both sides of the fence – I was severely bitten by a dog when I was a small kid, and was not exactly fond of the creatures until forty years later when circumstances altered my attitude.
If you don’t like dogs, I realize there’s nothing anyone can do to change that. All I can say is that I’m glad that I was converted. I would consider Steve Rigg’s comment to be the voice of reason on the issue. I would suggest to the people in charge of West Bragg to frame Steve’s comment and post it at the trailhead. Yeah, and relax, everyone.
We’re at Nipika Mountain Resort on the edge of Kootenay National Park and about a half-hour from Radium Hot Springs. This place is nothing short of fantastic for cross-country skiers. If you like dogs, it’s even more fantastic.

We arrived in time to get settled in our cabin and go for a late-afternoon ski to the Natural Bridge. Snow and trail conditions are wonderful. I don’t think three days will be long enough to cover all the trails here.

The owner of Nipika, Lyle Wilson, is about the friendliest and kindest man you’ll ever meet. He’s done wonders to make this into a family-friendly getaway in one of the most scenic places you’ll ever visit. Although it’s a lot of work, you can se that Nipika is a labour of love for Lyle.

Most of the trails here are double trackset and wide enough for skating. The grooming is done with a Pisten-Bully so its top-notch.
