If the weather forecasts can be believed, it looks like a blue wax day at the Lake Louise loppet today.
The Weather Network indicates a temperature of -15 this morning, rising to -8 by race time at 11 a.m.
Ski Louise indicates 5 cm of fresh snow overnight.
Take note, there is no race registration this morning for the Lake Louise Loppet.
The photo shows my friend Peter at yesterday’s Cookie Race at the Norseman’s waxing tent. Peter is the one smiling, George is the one working. Looking at the Cookie Race results, it appears the times were slower than usual so there must have been some fresh snow on the trails. I would like to hear from any Cookie racers regarding the conditions yesterday.
PLPP Conditions
Lots of fresh snow and new tracksetting overnight. “After flurries during the day on Saturday, snow moved in after dark, heavy at times, until light flurries took over around midnight for a few hours, before the snow stopped completely in the early hours of Sunday morning. About 5cm’s of new snow fell at the north end, more at higher elevations. When Saturday night’s grooming was completed, there was no more than a trace of snow on most of the new tracksetting.” Check the Live Grooming Report for more details.
West Bragg Creek update from Boomer Groomer
Mar 1 at 9 a.m: “Spectacular morning in ‘the creek’ with new snowfall overnight. Conditions on core trails will be excellent. Expectations for outlying, exposed areas should be low as these areas were subject to snow scouring winds and will not be groomed immediately. Refer to the grooming report for updated status. Happy trails!”
Yoho update
“After 15 cm of fresh snow in Yoho, Joe tracked set on Saturday, February 29th, Tally Ho and Kicking Horse to Otterhead trail. The trail is in great shape.
It was not possible to track set the connector, because the snow was too soft.”
Part smile, part grimace. Trying hard to pull cap off an old sticky (melted) wax tin 🙂
