One last day of cool weather

Upper Bankhead was trackset today (file photo)

The Banff trail report indicates that Cascade valley to the 6K bridge was trackset today along with Upper Bankhead. Should be in nice shape for tomorrow(Sunday). I’m sure someone will check the trail beyond the 6K bridge for us.

Pipestone trails were groomed today and should be in good condition.

According to the weather forecast, next week will not be kind to the ski trails in Kananaskis and Banff.  Starting Monday, daytime highs will be above zero for a stretch of five days. It even hits Lake Louise and Yoho for two days mid-week. No new snow is in the forecast.

Environment Canada is predicting a high of +10°C for Banff on Tuesday. Argggh!

Sad news, the Birkebeiner has been cancelled. Trails have insufficient snow and are icy.

I’ve noticed a lot of new names this month on the Trip Reports page. Thanks to all the “first-timers” who are giving us valuable information about the trail conditions. If you’re skiing tomorrow, today’s trip reports will tell you all you need to know in order to make your plans.

If you go to Mt Shark, take note of Cindy’s report of a fallen tree on the hill down to the river. If it’s windy, be diligent and keep your eyes open.

I ended up with about 3 cm of new snow on my deck in Canmore, with very strong winds all day. Things will be back to normal at the Canmore Nordic Centre starting Monday. The World Cup Biathlon’s final two races go tomorrow. I wonder if this fresh snow improved the natural snow trails there?
