The Lodgepole Grouse

We haven’t had any reported sightings of the Pocaterra “Killer Grouse” this winter, so I was thrilled to see this guy yesterday on Lodgepole ski trail. We stood there for a few minutes, enthralled with his entertaining antics.

I posted about the Pocaterra Grouse last winter The Boss of Pocaterra.

Last summer when I biked Pocaterra, I encountered a grouse hen with a number of chicks, and posted about it here The boss has kids. Could the Lodgepole Grouse be the offspring of the Pocaterra Grouse? He certainly has “attitude” and exhibits the same behavior towards skiers, pecking at their skis and poles.

This may be the territory he’s staked out and is protecting a female who is hidden away in the trees somewhere.

  1. Heather and Bob and I met him today also! And, yes, while his little feet kept slipping off my ski he managed to grab my pant leg for a moment too. He’s stepped up his game since he chased us last time we were there, just a few weeks ago.

  2. Well I met the killer grouse today on the Lodgepole trail. He actually grabbed my pant leg ; maybe I got too close for him. Aggressive little devil.

  3. Skied at Great Divide and Lower Telemark today. It was lightly snowing so conditions were perfect. Lake Louise area trails should be really good this weekend with all of the forecasted snow!
