Wildflower walk

This evening was an opportune time to go for a walk around Many Springs lake in Bow Valley Provincial park. Numerous wild flowers are in bloom and the birds were singing their hearts out.

Many Springs lake

I saw wild roses, lady’s slipper, fleabane, potentilla, and geraniums. The sweetvetch is everywhere, and it lines the path for much of the way. The wood lilies are just starting to bloom, and there was one flower which I’ve never seen here before, and I don’t know the name.

Last year, the paintbrush was the most prolific I’ve ever seen it in the mountains, but very little so far this year.

Many Springs is easily accessible, there’s virtually no elevation, and you get to see flowers as soon as you get out of your vehicle.

The water level in the lake is quite low and is about a foot below the dock. In previous years I’ve seen it lapping above the lower edges of the dock.

One of the best things about this evening’s walk was no freakin’ mosquitoes.
