Skiing before thanksgiving

Thanks to Ribbon Creek tracksetter Jeff for the following photo and report:

Terrace trail near Kananaskis Village on Oct 4, 2018

“Skiers on Terrace link this morning a little Thanksgiving treat. Check out the leaves falling on the trail worse than needles.”

Thanks to Tanya Koob for the following photo and report:

West Bragg Creek on Oct 4, 2018

“My first time skiing in October! And the snow was incredible!! We went to West Bragg Creek and did a short loop through 40cm of fresh powder. Thank God my girlfriend wanted to break trail. Prime ski touring conditions. We were pleased by the quality of the snow too. Not sticky or icy. We used waxless light touring skis and they performed well.”

Thanks to a heads-up from Hugh Burton, we now know that Moraine Lake road has been closed to vehicle traffic. Banff National Park posted the following:

Moraine Lake road is closed to vehicle traffic

“Due to early winter conditions, Moraine Lake Road in Banff National Park and Yoho Valley Road in Yoho National Park (leading to Takakkaw Falls) will remain closed for the season. Both roads are open seasonally and typically close to vehicular traffic after Thanksgiving.

During the winter the Moraine Lake Road will be track set for cross country skiing, however Moraine Lake remains inaccessible due to avalanche hazard.”
