The Snow Gods have smiled upon us. Just came in from an hour of snow shovelling. The first 10 cm has arrived here in Canmore, and from what I see on the Calgary TV news it’s in the city as well. I’m hoping that the higher elevations received even more. How will we keep up with all the new trails that will be skiable over the next few days?!!

Update Dec 8, 2008 9:50 a.m: Still snowing lightly here. Looks like a total accumulation of about 15 cm. The Barrier Lake Info Centre in K-Country reports 32 cm!!!!! That means we should be skiing the Ribbon Creek trails within a day or two. Peter Lougheed received 20 cm which should help them put the finishing touches on some trails.
Fine skiing on the Moose Loop at West Bragg on Tuesday late afternoon. Most trails are soft packed with good coverage, minor hazards, and some bumpy bits. No tracksetting. I’d rate conditions as “fair to good”. On the West Bragg scale, of course. Hopefully the warm winds raking my house in the city tonight won’t wreck things too much. Likely I’ll check out the trails again afterwork Wednesday or Thursday, as I work in the area.
Just received this email from Duane:
“Lake O’Hara, on Saturday, was in very good condition – contraire to the Dec 7 Yoho National Park report (“fair”). The additional snow on Sunday probably made it even better. There was rain previous to snows on Friday evening and Saturday that did leave a crust at lower elevations, but that was getting covered quite nicely. No snowmobiles to pack the trail – at least not lately. And I did go all the way to Lake O’Hara Lodge –had a picnic on the deck of the day lodge, across the street from the warden’s cabin. Still some open water on the lake, and of course creeks downstream are still mostly open (which makes some back country access tricky).
