Snow has returned

Before you head out today, it would be a good idea to check the webcams for road conditions, especially Lake Louise and the Sunshine overpass. It looks pretty socked-in. At 9 a.m., we’ve only had about 5 cm so far in Canmore, but it’s still snowing, and the forecast is for much larger accumulations in Banff and Lake Louise.

Some of the trails, while still in reasonably good condition, were in need of freshening up with some new snow. It appears that this will be followed with cold weather. Perfect.

  1. Hi Bob,
As Laurence mentions the Ribbon Creek area has received close to a foot of snow. Ten inches exactly measured at 430pm on Terrace trail today and it was still snowing hard. All the Village trails, Ribbon/Link/Kovach/Terrace loop, Hidden, Troll Falls, Coal Mine and Hay Meadow all groomed today but they will all have some amount of new snow on them. This was the January snow storm we all needed. Expect great conditions everywhere.

  2. It was beautiful day in all this snow. I managed to ski the Bill Milne Bike Trail this morning. The skiing was hard since it snowed nearly a foot and I had to break trail. I brought my skate skis thinking I would still get to ski the groomed trail that I skied last Friday. The skating was slow but well worth the drive from Calgary. It was strange to get back to the city with blue sky, wind and quickly diminishing snow coverage.

    Enjoy the weekend of snow.
