Something possessed me to listen to this song recently Long Train Runnin’ and while skiing today, the old Doobie Brothers song was going through my mind, so you know where I got the title. Snow = love.
Amy was the first skier I met on New Pocaterra
The Doobies were one of my favourite bands back in my days of debauchery and depravity. My musical tastes have changed dramatically in the intervening 40 years, but it’s fun to go back and hear the hits of our youth. I wonder what title I can come up with for Taxi.
Pocaterra near the Packers junction
Today’s skiing was all around wonderful. The snow on Friday night magically resuscitated Pocaterra between the hut and Lynx junction.
It was -8°C when I started at 1 pm, and the snow was -5. My wax today was VR45(-2/-8) and it performed well. There were a few glassy stretches on Pocaterra above the Lynx junction where I slipped a couple times but it was insignificant. After descending Packers, I rewaxed at the base of Whiskey Jack and that lasted me for the remainder of my 29K.

Going down Packers was fun, fun, fun with no scary icy parts. There were a couple very tiny patches of ice of no consequence. The big hill at the beginning was in nice shape with plenty of snow, making for a controlled descent.

At the top of Whiskey Jack I headed over to Tyrwhitt to see just how much snow fell on Friday night. Quite a bit, actually. I skied to the end of the second meadow and turned around. I had already logged 17K and it was starting to snow. My next 12K back to the hut was a lovely downhill run. There’s still one 300 metre stretch on Pocaterra between Packers and Lynx with lots of pine needles. It’s not unusual to see pine needles in this location even in a good year.

I had the pleasure of meeting many blog readers today including Phil and Laurie who just took up cross-country skiing this winter. They must be fast learners if they are already tackling trails like Packers. Also at the Packers – Pocaterra junction I met Willie Bridge who just yesterday won the Home Waxing Set-up from Lifesport(see photos below).

As Phil and Laurie alluded to in their trip report, I indulged in a lot of conversation with other skiers at the Packers – Pocaterra junction. Now that Susan from the Regina ski club has had her photo featured on here, she will enjoy a life of great happiness and abundance.
This blog set a record for unique visits in a single day with 5792 yesterday. Back in the early days, I would have been thrilled with that many in a month.
